Zenvo failed and burned miserably. As I watched the show, Clarkson felt like he had some sort of personal grudge with this car. Felt like even if it was good, he'd hate it but we'd be assured that it was the car's fault with all break downs and fire.
So if you'd recall TG Magazine's words, they back then praised it and called it "The Stig's Supercar" in 2010 so there maybe some issues.
Zenvo has now released a statement to a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! trying to clear up a few things because the sort of press the car generated from the show, could potentially end its career in the supercar world.
They say that after an hour of brutal drifting (for taking some good shots for our pornographic pleasure), the clutch went up in flames and once it was fixed, and it went back under the feet of the speed demons who did some flying and used up 50 liters of fuel until it caught fire.
The fire was traced back to a fault in the fan of the intercooler and since the fire, each intercooler is tested after receiving from the supplier.
Apart from the fact that Jezza got the price of the vehicle wrong, which is 660,000 GBP instead of 800,000, TGUK tested the car when driving was not recommended in many parts of Britain because of the weather and so the car's true potential could not have been exhibited because its wheels could not find traction on a cold and rainy day.
I'll agree to the when 1100 hps are pushing just the real wheels of a heavy mid-engined car, it's like those F1 cars trying to beat a hatchback on marble floor. The sort of thing TG tested in doors sometime back.
Moreover, Zenvo complains that they didn't even bother to tell the 0-to-60 time of 2.69 seconds nor did they mention the top speed of 189 MPH.
However, I don't think Zenvo will be taking TG to court though.

189mph is kinda lame when a V8 Vantage will reach that, don't you think?

I think most people like us realized that the car had a lot more potential than they showed in the test, as would somebody who could and and wanted to buy the car. However, since its an entertainment show it made sense to go over the top to woo over the non-car people.

Yup you're right. And I am not defending but merely putting a point forward because I just realized it that I drove a Swift Sport at 170 KMH and an actual JDM CR-Z at 170 (which was limited to 180). CR-Z and Swift both will top out at 180, but in the CR-Z, you'll get there faster and be more comfortable in and there's a whole lot of more stuff. Same's the case between Vantage and the ST-1. Just my opinion.
I'll get a Vantage as a DD before anything though.

Yeah, its lap around the track could have been the redeeming factor. I really would've liked to see it in the dry. 1100hp just doesn't seem very manageable in the rain.
Also Clarkson does subject it to some very brutal drifting... It shouldn't, but really could kill a lot of cars?

It's a typo, their website says 375km/h which is 233mph.By the way they have a preety nice website.

I'm not trying to defend TG or the Zenvo here but surely other supercars TGUK tests go through the same hours of drifting for pornographic pics and don't catch fire. Sure it would've been better to have it go around the track on a dry day but that doesn't negate that it was slower than an M5 in the wet. Those intercoolers should've been tested in the first place. I like the Zenvo, it's a sharp looking car. And this is their first car so it'll have its problems. They should listen to the negative press and refine their car until it is perfected for production runs.

That is also true, I just found it a little bizarre that they want TG to say 189mph when 189mph just doesn't impress anyone anymore. If it was 209, well great now you have a 200mph club car which is awesome.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 15:32 |

Honestly how often are you able to see the true potential of a car's top speed? Almost never. Who cares that it doesn't hit that 200mph mark because most people, even most car journalists who get the car will never get close to any fast car's top speed. The one thing you can do in every car no matter how fast or slow is show off its 0-60 potential and never break the law. Even when racing, a car's 0-60 and acceleration are more important than if it can hit 200 mph.

My bias, up there whatever it was, was due to the fact the Magazine anointed it with precious title and the show hated it. You're correct though, the car should've taken it well like others do.

I'm just saying, they get upset that TG didn't mention the 189mph top speed when 189mph top end isn't impressive anymore to anyone...
Its one thing if the car was 200mph+ capable, cause that is still something to be proud of, but it doesn't even do that...

haha! They can't afford these mistakes anymore. How can they.

Wikipedia says The Motor Report says 233mph.

Well, the jigs up. You used Wikipedia. I can't win against facts of that magnitude!

Didn't even have to go to Wiki. Google had enough in the search results. Hard-nosed journalism up in here.

Thats the thing, they've done some brutal stuff to cars in the past and they haven't fallen apart on them.
Heck, Clarkson abused a P1 on Spa and Harris on Yas Marina, those didn't flambe themselves either.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 15:55 |

True. These are cars that should be able to handle repeated abuse like this.
Pity, because I do think the Zenvo is sort of neat. Two many black gaping holes on the front for my taste, but I think there are plenty of people that like that sort of thing.

I liked it, the review came out exactly as I would expect a start-up niche supercar to do .

To clarify it, they talked about the top speed they reached on the actual air strip, which is the fastest ever on the strip... Not the top speed of the actual car.
![]() 02/22/2014 at 09:21 |

Yeah. People hare have reading comprehension issues. Nowhere does it state that 189mph is the top speed of the car, but merely the speed attained on the airstrip straight.
